Marcel Dennert has been the director of Stichting Monumentenzorg Curaçao, the island’s Monuments Foundation, for the past two years. He is also the director of N.V. Stadsherstel, an organization that focusses on the renovation and rental of both historic buildings and public spaces in the Willemstad city center.
After finishing a bachelor degree in Architectural Engineering, Marcel Dennert obtained two Master degrees from the University of Pittsburgh; Urban & Regional Planning (1987) and Public & International Affairs (1988).
Having been born and raised on Curaçao, he returned to the island as a consultant in 1989. In 2001 he became Director at IMD Curaçao, which is mostly active in the fields of architectural design and consultancy project and construction management.
Mr. Dennert will be addressing in his presentation the need for a fresh approach to the functional and design aspects of restoration, in order to encourage local business to relocate to the historical city center.
